Concrete House by the Coast

This coastal home is built around a single long view of the sea. A low concrete bar runs parallel to the water, shielding the interior from wind and salt while opening entirely toward the horizon. Living spaces sit on one level, so the house reads as one calm gesture rather than a collection of rooms. Everything is oriented toward light and water.

The palette is intentionally minimal: poured concrete, teak, and glass. Concrete provides mass and weathers honestly in the salt air; teak softens the interior and ages with grace; glass disappears. Each material was chosen for how it behaves over time, not how it looks on day one. Twenty years from now, it should look better.

Building for Salt and Wind

The coast is unforgiving, so the design answers it directly. Deep overhangs protect the glass from driven rain; operable shutters close the house in storms; all hardware and fixings are marine grade. The roof drains away from the facade, and every joint is detailed to shed water rather than trap it.

A House That Faces the Sea

The plan is simple and deliberate: one long wall to the land, one long wall of glass to the water. Between them, rooms flow into each other without corridors. The result is a house that feels larger than its footprint, because every space borrows the sea. You are never far from the horizon, and the horizon is never far from you.
