A Pavilion for the Community
This small community pavilion sits at the edge of a public park, opening on all four sides. It has no doors and no fixed program—just a roof, a floor, and a set of columns. The structure shelters markets, classes, and gatherings, and stays open the rest of the time as a place to sit. Its simplicity is the point.
The pavilion is built from a single material: cross-laminated timber. The columns, roof, and benches all come from the same kit of parts, cut and assembled on site in weeks. Exposed wood gives the structure warmth and honesty. Nothing is hidden, and nothing is finished beyond what weather and use will do anyway.
A Roof Without Walls

The pavilion is defined by what it leaves out. Without walls, it never closes and never excludes. Shade and shelter are provided where needed; everything else is open to the park. People use it in ways we did not plan, which is exactly what a public building should allow.
Built in Weeks, Made to Stay

Prefabrication kept the build fast and the site clean. Panels arrived cut to size, were lifted into place, and fixed in days. The small footprint and light foundation mean the pavilion could be moved or adapted later without waste. It is a modest building, but it was designed to be genuinely useful—and to last.
